Logout & login often to be ranked & stay eligible for prizes

Weekly Prize Eligibility Rule: To be eligible for weekly prizes, you must login at least once between Saturday 12:00AM – Friday 4:00PM. If you do not login, your ranking for the week will be ZERO and you’ll not show up on weekly rankings page. Additionally, your Starting Portfolio Value for the week must be minimum $25,000.

Monthly Prize Eligibility Rule: To be eligible for monthly prizes, you must login at least once during the month. If you do not login, your ranking for the month will be ZERO and you’ll not show up on monthly rankings page. Additionally, your Starting Portfolio Value for the month must be minimum $25,000.

Required: To make sure that you are being picked up correctly as "logged in" – make sure to logout and login again more often.

Survey to Active Users

We sent out a survey on August 20th to active users on WSS. The results will be compiled on Monday August 25th and first 1,000 respondents will be awarded 500 loyalty points. So, if you have not already completed the survey, check your email now to access the survey.

We don't seem to be having the morgage problems up in Canada like you are having in the US but in time it probably will happen here but we don't have quite so many lending institutions so we may escape this. Thanks for the info on everything down south.

Your strategy has to match your objective.  If you are a trader, then not leaving postions open overnight make sense.  If you are an investor (and yes you can "invest" in short positions) then your strategy should be different.  Short selling is very difficult, but can lead to some very large payoffs with patience.

Now for contests like this, you need an even different strategy.  The only way to win, is to risk everything, don't diversify, and maximize your positions.  That is a recipe for disaster for your own portfolio, but is your only chance to beat everyone else.

Thanks for the "short" advice! I was always told to play it safe and never leave a short on the table. I could see the financials, airlines, automotive, etc being down for a while and could leave a short on the table but the way the market is bouncing around now not sure what to do!
