  Be careful on shorting though. Your possible gains are limited and your possible losses aren't. For example, if you short a stock at $30, the absolute best you could gain is $30/share if the stock bottomed out, however, there is no limit at all to how high the stock could go, meaning a loss for you.

hi tricia. okay heres the long story short on shorting.  if you think a

stock is going to go down in value , you short it, you are selling it

before you own it. a $10 stock you short goes to $8 . if you have

1000 shares you made $2000. to get rid of it you cover. or buying

it back at a lower price.  for a profit. i did this a few months ago

with bear sterns. i shorted it @ $30 a share it went down to

$4 in 1 day  i had 800 shares  so i made almost  $21k in

one day. most of the time you make $500 to a $1000  if you

are lucky. try it out.  the stock has to be over $3 a share for
