About me My approach to investing is like shopping in the supermarket. I look for variety and buy on sale. I also evaluate different stores for bargains. In other words, I am a conservative investor that researches companies before buying individual stocks for a diversified long term portfolio. But not here! If you want to win this contest you got to get out of your own skin and take risks, be patient, try to time the market and live or die by your own convictions.

Luego, I took noticed--you really nailed that prediction!  Too bad the power didn't cooperate.  It's amazing just how many things can go wrong in a contest like this (or real-life trading) to complicate things.  Where to from here?  I think short-term there will be some giveback in the sectors that have boomed over the last week, and longer-term I believe you've nailed it.  For purposes of this contest, I'll have to go with something that has the potential of doubling my money over the next four weeks.  Not sure what that is yet.  Actually, it's probably to ride the tides with the most volatile sectors and hope to hit it just right.  So I'm aiming for either $200,000 or $20,000 at this point!

Luego, are you indeed off the homies yet?  Yikes, from the looks of a $40K hit today, it sounds like that's not the case.  Tell me this is a WSS mistake!  Wow, what a hit the homies are taking.  Yeah, I decided yesterday it was time for changes in the WSS portfolio, and time to get off coal.  I didn't have any intriguing ideas so thought housing long might be a good place at least for a few days.  When I checked in this morning I was down about $15,000 already so immediately sold off and instead shorted the airlines.  I've managed to make up the $15K already.  Powerful swings in this market!  Still no word from CNBC...

I am down to 64K now, I think I am racing to the bottom instead of the top, I seem to be stuck in reverse. LOL

Glad to see you are going the right direction.

Luego, hey, back to 72K!  The homie rally has truly begun!  Stick with it!  I'm still waiting... apparently tomorrow is announcement day.  I'm not counting myself in the winners circle yet.  These games tend to work in quirky ways as a rule, so I'm still looking through skeptical lenses.  Hopefully I'll be proven wrong tomorrow!  either way, helluva ride...  And coal, well it tossed back yesterday's profits today.  I've got to get off my default strategy here and come up with a plan for the final weeks of WSS.  I think coal will be headed north, though not enough to get me back into the race.  Hmmm...homies???

Luego, yeah, I concluded yesterday that the high-flyers were bound to come down to earth today, and that I had a better chance by letting others fall back than me scoring once again.  I felt quite confident with that strategy--but sure second- and third-guessed it today after seeing Fannie and Freddie soar once again, while the airlines also continued up.  Today was the opposite of what I needed to get back into the money, so I concluded that I finished somewhere on the leaderboard, though not in the money.  BUT--then I get a prize affivadit from CNBC in my inbox!  It didn't say what I won, so I'm still in the dark.  I must have gauged the others in front of me wrong--or it's some kind of mistake.  We'll see.  So get ready to pop that cork...but not quite yet!

Yep, I knew what you meant on those naked shorts.  Well hey, the housing spike isn't just a one-day blip!  Two days in a row of double-digit gains.  You've gained what...about 30% in two days?  Well done!  I'm taking your advice and taking profits for tomorrow's finale at CNBC.  I really think the amazing, brief rally will subside before the weekend, and I think my chances are better on the sidelines than pushing the financials (or anything else) one more day.  Great results again today, up 14% overall.  I'm somewhere in the top 10--they're not telling.  If oil's down again tomorrow I'm done for, as the airlines will take off again, though otherwise stand a decent chance.  I'm not popping that bottle just yet!  Thanks again, good buddy, for all of the encouragement and wisdom!

Your day has arrived!  Green double digits everywhere!  Think it will continue from here?  My big move yesterday is paying off today.  I went off coal and onto depressed financials...my portfolio's up about 25% for the day so far.  Just what I needed!  But the airlines are going absolutely nuts (up about 35%) and surely there are others in the hunt taking a shot on that.  So this thing will continue to get crazy right on down to the wire.  What a rush!

Luego, yep I traded my coal in today.  Even if it rallies, it's too little, too late at this point.  I'm in 20th with decent ground to make up, so I needed a live portfolio with a chance to spike quickly.  So I went with extremely risky and volatile financials.  At this point I'm hoping for a little help from above!  Options sure sound like a thrill ride.  I guess the key is to be very selective, which it sounds like you are.  And as you said, don't ever risk more than you can afford to lose.  Any options plays in this market?

Luego, that was a real trade, not fantasy?  If so, kudos to you, buddy.  Man, what a score. Yep, options go where this game certainly can't.  Is that what you tend to play mostly, beyond equities?
