One must gather "intelligence" from a number of places on and off the web. The Nightly Business Report, cNBC, CNN, Fox Business, and the Wall Street Journal, are all excellent places to start.
NEVER GET TRADING ADVICE FROM: A cousin who has a friend that has an uncle that has a neighbor that knows somebody. These are dubious situations. You need good info right now.
Next, don't be shy about short-selling stocks that are under performers in the market! Some stocks are very week, take advantage of them and sell them short on the belief that their prices will continue to fall.
Go long on stocks that are not good, but excellent growth prospects! Please note even in these troubled times major oil companies stocks have fallen when the price of oil goes up!
You have to do competent research to help you get good picks. Some firms are in bad industries, sell them short. Some have good upcoming products, go long on these picks.
You are the final person that will make the decision on what to pick: Have faith in your choices that you make only you are responsible for your picks in the final analysis. Therefore, picking stocks is very hard work and requires competent advisors that really know their skills.
Next, remember the old adage:
A bull can make money,
A bear can make money,
but a pig gets nothing!
Don't fall in love with your picks -- be ready to dump them if they fall about 10% in value. Always reinvest your buying power as soon as possible, when it comes up on the screen. DO NOT LEAVE ANY BUYING POWER GO TO WASTE!
