covers, shorts and all of that?

hi I am wondering how to short a stock, and cover a stock... if they are used in conjunction with eachother or not . the reason why one would want to do it other than because its profitable. :) I read what was said on survivor U and it didnt quite make sense. thanks G

SHORT AND COVER

I am completely lost on this whole "short" and "cover" thing. I have no idea what either is. I have read a few details here and there on different pages but I guess I'm still not getting it. Can anybody help me? Maybe if you gave me some examples of situations it would help.....
