rosebud07:
I have never been to Mardi Gras but it looks like fun on TV. Easter is early this year so that would make ASH Wednesday early too.I hope you have a good time regardless of the weather.
I live in Wisconsin. Wher in Arizona Bishop? I own land in Navajo County.
Well, Rosebud let me give you a quick rundown as to what happens. The season starts on 12th night and ends at midnight Mardi Gras night. The entire season is nothing but fun and food and drink, you know the saying eat, drink and be merry thats us. When its beautiful weather as it was today and tonight with no cancellation of parades its considered a success. The merchant who benefit from Mardi Gras are bakeries (King Cakes), grocery stores, liquor stores, black tie apparel shops, souvenir shops, bars, hotels, restaurants and fast food. More food is cooked for Mardi Gras than there is for Thanksgiving and Christmas. On the Monday before the big day there's not a package of red beans to be found in the grocery stores. Everyone cooks whether its something at home to picnic while on parade route or set up grill, burners, big pots, coolers, etc to supply food to anyone who looks as though they need something to absorb the alcohol. A sandwich or snack will just not do if a person's been drinking all day. Its fun to just even being a spectator but its even more fun to ride upon one of the floats, which I've done so several times. Usually, a person is so loose at the end of the route, you get sober aga as least I always have. You definitely feel no pain. My body is getting older and can only handle so much so I didn't stay for Endymions Extravanga at the Superdome tonight for I'm wiped out. Listening to the rest of it on TV. Mardi Gras is billed as the "Greatest Free Show on Earth" it is. A person can go to a parade with no money and return home with a full belly, drunk and happy. Also we hear the first Mardi Gras music on the radio 26 Decembre. After Katrinas' devastation in 2005, officials had thought about cancelling Mardi Gras 2006, all the floats were destroyed and there was an utter feeling of hopelessness everyone. Thank God, they didn't cancell for it gave everyone a feeling of hope and Rebirth. It was such a beautiful day that it was hard to believe just a few months previously everything looked bleak.
What you see on the news about one big party and free at that it is the truth.
As the saying goes "Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler!"
