Why is WSS shuting down threads?

Isn't this supposed to be off topic. That's what the forums name is. So why is WSS shuting them down.

I was wondering the same thing . some of them were really fun . I think it is because of points . But most of us go way over 5 posts . whats wrong with having a little fun while we play this game . It helps us to get to know each other a bit better . The jokes were great and I would repeat a lot of them at work and some people just joined to read the posts and did not care to trade .

Maybe there is a law against trading stocks and being funny?  Just think about all those Wall Street types.  Too serious, Too stuffy, Too rigid.  It is so hard controlling the world.

It's their website and if they want to implement these rules, then we have two choices.

    1. continue visiting the website under their rules

    2. stop visiting the website

It's unfortunate that we are not allowed to express our thoughts and ideas and share them with people.  But rules are rules.

You might be on too something. Maybe there is a connection between this and the interment camps being built. Also i think they like us having ulcer's and stroke's before age 30.

The problem reamins no answer is being provided by WSS other then we said so in summary.  The sports forum has gone unmolested as has daily politics and a few others.  They're as well threatening members with membership cancellation if conformity is not persued but thus far it remains just some and not all who are confronted so.  If the problem is the GC's they offered for points then why complain what the posts consist of if the offer in the beginning stated not a word about what the forums would have to consist of to qualify.  Just my thoughts on the matter since I am one who has been threated and had posts deleted as well as received their emails stating "STOP" without further explanation.  Yet no where are rules posted that state each forum must be of stock and trade talk, that is that I can locate.  Are we making trades here, learning, reading... and with each our visit are they not making money and do they not have paid advertisers and I ask how the forums they encouraged others to create for them in the first place are disrupting their financial flow?  Peace out all and let this trading week be better then last weeks.

Nanakeser, Each Forum topic title has a description of the subject to be discussed.

Let me guarantee you NO one on this site has ever made $ from your partcipation.

IF in fact each forum topic is and can be persued why do you persist in shutting them down, complaining, deleting posts and locking them?  OFF TOPIC should be defined as what then?  The A to Z forum is being conducted exactly as the topic states and yet you tried to shut it down as well.  Sports forum has what to do with stock and trades?  You, WSS even went into the "Did I read that right" forum and complained not that it was not stock related and no threats made there.  So make up our minds.  Which is it....which topic forums are correct without stock talk and which are not.  As to your reply about "NOT" making money hereI would counter that you did not create this site for any other reason than to gain gains and that would include all who participate within this game frame.  Without our daily arrival and participation would your sponsors continue with your site...no.  Your reply is incorrect.

Corky~ i can't believe that they wouldn't let you start a game where the theme is stock symbols....that is rediculous...i tried to leave a message on the wall of WSS Administor because he is going to shut down the game 60's, 70's, 80's songs...and i wanted to remind WSS that it was WSS that asked the deputies to come up with games so people would stay online more than just when the stock market was open...i,e, holidays, weekends...

They are changing things and acting like the players have come up with these ideas on their own...when in fact they were put in place by the suggestion of WSS in the first place...

Wow, what IS all this about, really? Censorship on a Forum is expected, but to a degree. I think some of this is just a bit more than unnecessary. What's fun is fun, and yes I can understand "unnecessary posts in threads where the post distracts from the thread itself" (such as flaming, etc) but the harmless distractions that (some) enjoy are in fact GOOD distractions.

Yes, take away the heavy 'junk' (ie: that which don't ADD to the website) but the community which you yourselves wished to exist almost requires THEIR entertainment, too. When the bell rings, you say the game is on. When it rings again, is it over? I say the game began once someone registered to your website, be it for the contest you provide, the education involved, as well as the community that exists; Remember, you wanted people to come here and play, learn, add to your population count and etc.

We came and we play, and some work hard at more than just the 100k game, while others stay focused on the game itself. Some visit WSU, others troll the boards ONLY, looking for tips, hints, news what have you to benifit themselves for your game, as well as maybe their personal lives. Those of us that have, for lack of a better phrase, "established ourselves as 'downtown' forum folk" DO exist, and are as important as the former people I mentioned. (Some of both groups, I might add, are dedicated and have been here longer than *I* have!)

I don't mean to come off as obnoxious, merely a concerned player and poster who's very reason for being ANYWHERE is in jeopardy; Not to forget one who recognizes the needs of more than himself.

Some of the reply's to posts dont even come close to the original topic. Some people also feel that as long as they are expressing their views that its OK. For awhile it got bad in the forums as quite a few people were only writing"points, points" oh sorry I meant "thanks for the info " in 5 different subjects daily. So if WSS wants to clean up the unnecessary and frivolous posts thats up to them. There are a lot of forums on the web where your post has to be read and approved by a moderator and it might take awhile before the reply is posted. So just enjoy the game.

WSS -For a long time people did the "Hi" posting and I kept asking, "Why are you doing this, because the rules state that no points will be given for "Hi" and other wasteful comments, but no one would answer me, so I guess they were just hoping they would get points anyway, or maybe they got some perverse pleasure out of it, like the people who go in and disrupt some of the other threads.  I think most would agree that those things are pointless and an abuse of the point system.

I would be very sad if some of the places were blocked, and  most of what I write is under Funny category, because I don't know enough to talk intelligently about the stock market; but, I am reading, learning and trying.

What is hard to understand, I think, is when someone who is particularly abusive, crude, or inappropriate seems to rant on and on with no censoring, while others, who seem to post something rather mundane,  are warned or deleted.

I don't know, since I haven't seen the actual deletions, and  WSS' is it certainly your option to do as you please, but a reasonable explanation really is conducive to good public relations. Some people understand short explanations, while others need more.  No one wants to feel misunderstood, used, abused, or unimportant.

Even though I have lost a lot of money, I look forward to logging in, every morning, and I miss it when I can't. Personally, I would continue trading, reading and blogging, with or without points,  but I do appreciate them!

Thus far most of us paying attention have not found consistency with what is locked out and what is not because there is no rhyme or reason or consistency.  Music was shut down but sports was not.  Neither topic relate to stocks and trades which by the way was never posted in the rules as being necessary within these forums in the first place.  Jokes are allowed but not an alphabet game.  Random disturbing thoughts are monitored but the jokes continue.  The deputies are out there doing as they please as is WSS without treating all the same but there it is none the less.  And you risk your post being deleted on any grounds they now choose unless perhaps you are in the "in" crowd.  The "off topic" is no longer off topic but by the choice of wss and what is and is not "off topic" on any given day it appears.

I guess I have to agree.  Why can't ppl just go to a bar or something and let us the ppl who wanna enjoy the game actually enjoy the game?  Some topics are interesting and allow the participants to form a sort of a bond.

Not making money?  If so, WSS would have been shut down a long time ago.

The worst offenders are being addressed first. Some are just posting to collect points others are interested in how to make $ in the stock market. We are responding to those interested in the stock market, they are the majority.
