    NFL

What y'all all think about the preseason so far?  My Ravens look really good.

well, I am a Niners fan, and our best years are behind us (Montana, Steve Young, Rice, Ronnie Lott, 5-0 in Super Bowls in the 1980s-1990s).

so, I suffer like the Cubs fans, as I do not believe we do much this year.

I love Mike Singletary as the coach.

I despise our 10th pick in the 1st round, WR Michael Crabtree, who's holding out for a 7th-round money deal.

Yea I know what you mean, man.

I love the fact tht Singletary has restored discipline and gone back to the fundamentals with his team.

Yea, I don't get Crabtree.  You're drafted at #10 in the 1st round for a reason.  Stop asking for a top-3 contract.

Washington looked pretty bad, its only pre though. Can't wait for regulat season and of course, hockey is just around the corner.

My Niners won our first pre-season game (which means nothing. After all, during the Bill Walsh era, we routinely lost preseason games, as Walsh was more interested in experimenting with player rotation, plays, etc., than in winning a meaningless game).

But, I am not impressed with the win over the Broncos, in which Kyle Orton threw 3 INTs

Alex Smith showed nothing in particular - good grief...we're paying him a sh**tload of money as a #1 draft pick, and he's looking like the 2nd worse bust this side of Ryan Leaf

yea I know what u mean brah.  But do not worry tht much, Alex Smith redid his deal with San Francisco to take a major pay cut b4 the season to truly work on his QB skills.  What a bust from the great state of Utah.

    Re: NFL

I don't understand how NFL scouts can be so enamored with the likes of Alex Smith, and his predecessors like Andre Ware (who ran up big numbers while in college).

if you play for a passing offense (especially, if you always took snaps from the shotgun formation like they do in Hawaii and Utah State), your stats need to be taken with a huge grain of salt.

    Re: NFL

Haha yea exactly, especially with the spread offense.  QBs need to show tht they can perform in a regular offensive setting.  Also, linemen get lazy in the spread as well, not using the proper technique.  The only position tht's easier to evaluate is the WRs, but, ironically, few good WRs have come out thus far in this era lol.

I think the scouts have learned a lil bit with Hawaii, with the likes of Brennan (NCAA TD Pass record holder) and Timmy Chang being drafted low.

wow, so I hear that Raiders head coach Tom Cable punched his assistant defensive coach and put him in the hospital?

shouldn't the Raiders be more worried about hitting the opponents?

You can't score TDs by beating up on yourselves.

lmao, I'm not surprised.  Cable is a big dude lol.

Not to worry, as they will both shake hands, do a man hug, and then "forget" that this ever happened.  Either way, the Raiders will still not make the playoffs.  Jeff Garcia is one of their QBs and is still playing in the league.  Well, I can't say much as John Kitna is still playing as well for the Cowboys.

    Re: NFL

lol Jeff Garcia was an all-pro QB lol.  I still can't believe he was pretty good back then.  He's arguably one of the best backups right now.  Russel was a lil' underrated last yr, especially down the stretch (week 11-17).

    Re: NFL

Unfortunately, Jeff Garcia was cut from the team.  It was probably good news for Garcia as the Raiders will still not make the playoffs with or without him.  Rumour has it that T.O. called the Raiders office and requested that either he goes or Garcia goes, and the Raiders thinking that they had T.O. on their team released Garcia.  It's possible that the Raiders management will wake up this morning and realize that not only do they not have T.O. on their team, but the Raiders will still not make the playoffs.

I worked at a law firm that handled Al Davis's estate.  Trust me when I say winning isn't everything for Al.

I think the fact tht Oak is committed to Russel (financially) played an important role in this decision.  Garcia will be signed somewhere else soon.

Vikings or Packers to win it all?

    Re: NFL

I don't believe either the Vikings or Packers proved last year that they were good enough to win it all, and this year, while they may build on last season, I don't think they're so close to winning the Super Bowl

    Re: NFL

Right now, I agree that both teams will not win it all.  Both teams have a great chance to be playoff bound, but after that, who knows how far these two teams will go.
