    I Love AMD Right Now...

I love AMD right now as they have seem to be getting by their ill advised aqausition of ATI graphics (now if they could only get rid of the CEO) that put a ton of cost on the books straighted out as they have released the source codes to make the card more adaptable.

On 4/29/08 I bought them for $6.09 (real trade) and today I am at $7.26 for a net gain of 19.68% and during the same timeframe the S&P is only up 0.52%.

Chcek out the news on their site as well as Hot Hardware, Endgadget, Infoworld, Ny Times, The Inquirer, Wall Street News and so on.

They are now shipping their quad chips as they have reduced production costs as per their news last week and to top it all off they have announced plans for the 6 processor chip followed by a 12 processor chip. They also started shipping their triple core chip for the middle of the road computers so costs can be held for the manufacturers.

If one does the research one will find that most super computers such as the one at the U of Tenn. run AMD chips and AMD has announced plans to also get into mobile processing. Last week news came out from JAVA how AMD has helped their platform run faster and they have been working together as well as RedHat Linux's announcement to the same.

All this is the reasons I have moved to buy shares of AMD in real trading and I am looking at their next quarter to be much improved and planning another 3000+ share buy.

This is just my opinion and observation and no one should look at this as a buy. Please do your own research and make an informed decission based on your research.

AMD is going to have to fight pretty hard or find new target markets. They lost the extreme gaming community to Intel several quarters ago. Their chips aren't nearly as fast.

I agree with J828 in that AMD always seems to be a step behind. But I think Desta is right, AMD is a very strong contender. With the new Phenom chips, they are back on top. As a computer consultant working in the industry for the past 10 years, I have observed AMD's characteristics in terms of their product releases. They have always waited until Intel led the market towards new technology before stepping forward with their offerings. But with the new x64 architecture, I have to say AMD is the leader. This time it was Intel that followed along - a first in the battle between AMD and Intel.

In tems of product offerings, AMD has mostly offered the better value. While they haven't always been the fastest or the best, as some may put it; they do offer some of the best price to performance ratios. With AMD aquiring ATI, at least we see that AMD is serious about getting ahead. Certainly there will be kinks along the road, but if they keep their ground, there's good growth potential for them ahead.

It's been a recent thing. 3-4 years ago AMD was where the gamers were at. Sadly that isn't the case anymore.

AMD has been in the news more and more lately because they are leading the way over Intel and now have Intel scrambbling to play catchup. Just the other day the CEO of AMD said profitability was forthcoming this year as well as this bit of news:

AMD Continues its Technology Leadership Employing GDDR5 to Fuel Next-Generation ATI Radeon(TM) Graphics Solutions

New memory standard provides optimal means to drive performance gains in gaming and stream processing applications

It more depends on what you need. AMD is cheaper and works. I get the feeling that if you cater to the power and high end users, you get a great portion of the market. Intel definitely does a lot more advertising though...

AMD has always been an interesting stock that I look at from time to time. Never pulled the trigger on it.
