    Heip Save Windows XP

MS is going to stop selling XP June 30th. I do not know when they are going to stop support for XP. Here is a place you can go to sign a petition. IT is on the right hand side of the site infoworld.

It won't work... Besides, there are still plenty of copies of XP out there. It has to end one day... Maybe it's time to go to Apple or Linux.

Sorry the link did not work. As of April 29th they have about 193,000 signatures on the petition. Most the signers were small businessmen. The only replacement is Vista. I have Vista on my main CPU. It took me about a month to get it to where I was not frustrated anymore with Vista. As operating systems progress not only should they keep up with the new devices but also stay compatible with the old. With all the brains at Microsoft Vista should also have been easier to learn. People should not have to shell out $200 retail for an operating system that does not allow them access to parts of their computer.

Get over it.  There's absolutely no reason anymore to not use Vista.

I have never tried Vista and have had this computer for 6 yrs. I love windows xp but I never use internet explorer anymore I use foxfire it is a lot faster for me plus the explorer kept having  trouble needing to close and I hated the interuptions. Any Its ok but what I did was bought what I thought was something for school and put it on my computer because then i was computer illeterate. It was microsoft 64 edition now I have two operating systems on my computer and taking up room I could use. Would any of you know how to get it off of my computer. I have never put anything on it. Maybe I should just delete all I have on this one and go to the new one would that give me extra storage?

If storage is the only problem the easiest way might be to get a USB external hard drive. When you say delete windows XP.I do not know if you mean to reformat. Reformatting will erases the whole hard drive you would lose everything. You would need your original XP disk. If by chance the hard drive was partition you might be able to just reformat XP 64 partition. There might be a better way, this is the only way I know of.

While I do agree XP is a far better platform for business I am of the opinion that Vista is a far superior OS for the average user.

I say that as a businessman using XP in my office network enviroment and Vista at home and to be honest I love Vista, but it did take me a week or so to get use to simple tasks such as "Explorer" when trying to save something on the HD and then retrieving it again.

    My .02 worth...

I have to say as a computer consultant - Vista is a horrible product. Microsoft is getting too comfortable with it's market position allowing them to get sloppy on the products they release. Vista was simply not ready to come out when it did. I spent $1,300 on a brand new laptop only to have it crashing regularly just minutes out of the box. This kind of irresponsable business practice is unacceptable. Thank goodness I was a computer specialist and was able to stabalize the system after hours of downloads and updates. As a businessman, I can see why so many businesses are reluctant to make the switch.

With Linux and Apple looming over Microsoft's market share, Vista may go the way of Windows ME. Although Vista is pretty, it is extremely annoying to use. Many of the features of windows we've become used to have changed to the point where it will take time to learn how to use the new features. Also, Vista simply cannot compete with Windows XP's simplicity and ease of use. Honestly, I have already downloaded Ubuntu (a popular version of Linux). I will be trying it out with serious thought of making a change. Microsoft should remember that empires can fall if they become careless.

I know a lot of people hate Vista (one of the reasons I have not bought a new desktop or laptop)

fortunately, I have read that MSFT is planning on releasing a new OS soon in 2009

i have xp, i've thought about a new computer but i don't want vista.  i don't know about apples or linux either.  i think microsoft is trying to go too fast.  budgets just can't keep up with all their changes as well as the time it takes to learn new systems.  i still really haven't learned xp all that well.
