How long does it take an order to fill?

This morning I ordered 20,000+ shares of HPOL. That's about $22,000. I was hoping it would fill quickly, but the BUY order has been open for 45 minutes now, and the price of HPOL has risen from $1.10 to $1.25 in the mean time. I would have liked to take that profit. I was hoping to jump in and out really quickly.

In the past I've been more of an investor than a trader. I've never paid attention to how long it takes an order to process before. And if the stock rose a few cents in before the order filled, then oh well, just water under the bridge. But I'm practicing day trading now, and I'm starting to wonder how long this should take...

How quickly should a BUY order be filled? Does it take usually take 45 minutes (or more)? Is the delay happening because I bought such a huge order?

As I've been reading about techniques, I've seen references to "collectives" of day traders sharing an office. This surprised me as I had thought of day trading as just something you do at home alone. A group environment appeals to me; where can I find some of these office environments?

Hi, my name is Kija and I'm a newb!

First - I'm totally loving this site. I don't feel so anxious looking at all of this information as I am when I look at it in the "real world". Thanks for a great tool.

Second - How do you decide when to sell? I searched the articles and the best I got is lay out a plan (like 10%) and stick to it. But I don't even have a plan. I'm up $74 on one of my stocks and all giddy about it and have no clue should I take the money in run, or keep going to the 10% or make a different goal - like 5%.

Any advice on what depicts a person looking to make a 5% gain from a person looking to make a 50% gain would be much appreciated.

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if this is possible.

I purchased 100 shares of ABC at $20, and the market price is now at $30. My goal is to sell all 100 shares at $40 or better, so I set a Sell Limit Order for 100 shares at $40. However, I also want to break even if the stock drops, so I would want to set a Stop Loss (or Stop Limit) order at $20.

My question is if it is possible to have both orders running at the same time if I only own 100 shares of ABC? If not, what are the alternatives?

Multiple accounts in WSS

Is having multiple accounts in WSS an advantage? Because first of all, the person can recruit himself/herself, earning 15,000 loyalty points per referral. And trading stocks and increasing portfolio value of one account would make it easier for the player to be able to be the top player of a particular time period.

DISCB Stock Price

I have 800 shares of DISCB on order. Under My Transactions the price per share is shown as $48.00 but when I click on the DISCB stock symbol for information, the last price is $24.00. Why is the price I'm paying twice the current stock value? My thanks to anyone who can help clarify!
