    game play

most of what i read and research says to stay in long.  playing in this contest though seems to go against that.  long to me is more like 6 months to over a year.  so although i am trying to learn how to invest playing in the contest seems to undermine the strategy of being in for the long haul.  now that i am writing this i just had a thought to use my portfolio for the long and the contest portfolio to just play around with.  i guess it does help to write things out sometimes. thanks for listening

I agree, this contest is not good for learning to invest long.  However, I have learned a lot by playing these contests!  You don't have much time in this contest to make your money, so you have to figure out the market to see what will work for you to make money in this short of a time.  I hope you have as much fun playing WSS as I have.

I think it really depends on what investments you make early on whether or not it pays to go long... you can do very well going long if you choose the right stocks...of course the same is true about day trading ....if you are good at researching picks for day trading you can do well trading that way as well...so it all depends on your own strengths, and preferences...

I agree it's not good for long term investments, but you can still learn a lot. I didn't know what an etf was when I started or how to read a candle chart. Now I know both and much more thanks to being able to play.

You need to read and anticipate if something is going to cause a swing in price, such as when earnings are announced.

To me, for every day uses, long would mean a stock you were going to hold for more than three months.  If I was going to buy a stock that I wanted to hold, it would be for more than three months.  I would buy a stock that has a steady growth and earns good dividends.

Being still new and rather inexperienced in the market, I find the game a great way to gain experience and knowledge. I have begun to lean toward long holding in my real portfolio (right now I have to as it is down so low....) but see that one needs to be more aggressive playing the game. And I hope to carry some of that fearless aggressiveness over to the real world. Of course, it is easier to be fearless when it is not your own money!!

Sounds like you and I have the same thing going.  My permanent is for long term plays from six months to one year.  Right now it is maxed out and holding.

Contest is just for fun not really trying to do anything on it.  More interested in permanent one because I'm testing a new trading plan.  If it turns out ok I'll be looking to do this  so I don't have to watch market everyday and feel safe about my investments.  Are you using any method to pick your long term plays.  I use 2yr. weekly chart with 40 Day MA and compare it to SPX for long term plays.

I had to switch over from Advil to Aleive Liqui-Gels (2 at a time)

It kinda makes my left eye stop twitching and the back of my head quit throbbing

this game forces you to do lots of research, to see what stocks are fast moving.  if you were to buy these fast moving stocks when they are at low and hold onto it for the long haul, you would really clean up. a good price range seems to be in the $20-$30 range for the most profits, all though i got carless today and sold to soon and lost..tuff to stay on top.
