When it comes to eBay, I am a veteran. I've been buying and selling on eBay since 1998; yup, that's 10 years. At first it was wonderful. I got to make some good money and found some awesome bargains. That's all before the big guys came in. Big sellers started supplanting the small guy and all of a sudden eBay had become barely profitable for the small seller. It's pure business 101, higher supply forces lower prices when the demand remains the same.
I have to agree with Johnny B, eBay has now become impossible to deal with. Their customer service is like talking to a wall - absolutely useless. I also tried to sell a restore CD recently for an old computer I had long ago. They deleted the aucton twice stating Microsoft's claim. I tried to fight it, but it was useless and neither did they refund the fees they charged me.
After 10 years buying and selling. Recently I decided to buy a big ticket item. For me, this was a $400 used laptop. For the first time in 10 years, the seller stole my money. PayPal refunded $200 of it, so it wasn't a total loss, but I must say - I am loosing faith in eBay big time. Yes, sellers have sold me non-working items before, but never has it been an outright robery. I have seriously curbed my buying from eBay, preferring instead to buy retail and have the item in my hand.
A year ago a power seller slammed me with some scathing feedback for something I was not responsible for. He ruined my 100% positive rating which I worked so earnestly on keeping. I went to eBay customer service several times, but they refused to reprimand this abusive seller saying that I needed a lawyer to have the feedback removed. They then ignored any further emails I wrote them on the matter. I don't know about this boycott you guys have been talking about, but eBay is more in favor of the money bringers like power sellers rather than support the lowly buyer.
It's true, they do need a strong competitor. Maybe then they'll think twice about enacting abusive practices.
