Guns Galore - Your right to bear arms

And you guys want fewer restrictions on gun ownership???

'Cop Killer' Gun Used In Ft. Hood Shooting, Officials Said

Suspected Massacre Weapon Purchased Legally At 'Guns Galore' Shop in Texas

The gun thought to be used in the Fort Hood massacre packs so much firepower, it's known as 'the Cop Killer,' federal law enforcement officials said.

Major Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly packed a FN Herstal Five-seveN tactical pistol, which according to federal law enforcement officials, was legally purchased from the "Guns Galore" shop in Killeen, Texas in Aug. 2009. The store's manager, David Cheadle, said that particular firearm can hold 20 rounds in a standard clip and take a ten round clip extension. Cheadle said with one clip and one round in the chamber, one could fire 31 rounds before reloading.

Hasan may have used an expanded clip in the shooting.

On FN Herstal's webpage, the benefits of the Five-seveN pistol note that it can "defeat the enemy in all close combat situations in urban areas, jungle conditions, night missions and any self defense action."

The second gun he had with him was a .357 S&W Magnum revolver, federal law enforcement officials tell ABC News. Ballistics are still being run to determine if he used the revolver in the shooting.

Federal agents, military investigators and Texas Rangers had been investigating whether the gun allegedly used by Hasan was purchased at "Guns Galare," Cheadle told ABC News.

"They called last night and asked about a specific name and gun purchase, but the name was not Hasan," said Cheadle.

Three investigators, including one wearing a Texas Rangers badge, were seen entering the store just before noon Friday. The manager said they were interviewing all of the store employees.

They declined to comment as they left Guns Galore in a car with Department of Defense markings.

The manager said he recognized a photo shown to him of Major Nidal Malik Hasan, identified by authorities as the suspect shooter at Fort Hood. But he said Hasan would have had to show identification if he had bought the gun in his name.

Cheadle said the agents were interested in a FN pistol that uses 5.7 caliber ammunition.

interesting, especially the totally misleading cop killer designation, as the armour piercing rounds are not available to the general public, and the horror factor does not go unnoticed either, "5.7mm...for people that know little of nothing of metric conversions this goes a long way in the scare factor department (5.7 mm is slightly larger than a .22 round, but it does have a necked cartridge casing for more powder) My service pistol holds 17, 18 with one in the pipe and it is 9mm or .355 cal, my wifes eagle also holds 18 in 9 mm. The mention of FN Herstal is somehow intended to sew fear over some evil foreign company building this weapon (BTW her eagle was manufactured in Israel but eagle is such a friendly patriotic handle) that is nothing more than a tool, like a hammer or screwdriver, only this tool had the misfortune of being in the hands of a moron. BTW the .357 is a wheel gun and as far as rapid reloading goes, not happening, it was just thrown in for effect just by mentioning the magnum designation

iceman, have you been studying the msm?

Anyway those guns sound just like the ones OJ (whoever?) used on his wife and her friend. 30 rounds and fast reloading.

you can buy the extended mags for almost all makes, I find them undependable as the extra spring length creates pressure not designed for the feeds and slides, and if I have to put over 5 in the air I am just wasting ammo.....perhaps one or two too many gang movies???

iceman, I agree. And for those very reasons I prefer revolvers. No jams.

Ms, I am fine with what the Constitution allows us.

just what law stops criminals, another ridiculous misguided law will not bring anyone back, just make some lib fell happy with more restrictions and their self back patting! If more there or out east had been heeled these morons most likely would not have got of nearly as many rounds off before Joe or Jill citizen took them out.

Wait a minute.  You two actually are defending this psychotic killer?  Did you hear what he did?  Did you read about it?  It's not just the dreaded msm reporting on this.  It really happened.  How can you support a mass murderer?

LOL Ms, are you losing track of the very thread you started. "Your right to bear arms" There is no mention from me of supporting any nut job.

My constitutional gun rights is another matter.

But just the same liberal tactic of changing the subject. name calling, attacking, or distracting. Way to continue the mantra.

Re: Guns Galore - Your right to bear arms

Excuse me? The thread was started with a report about how a deranged fool was able to LEGALLY buy a gun referred to as a "cop killer" and kill a dozen and hurt dozens more. Then you and iceman started defending your right to bear arms rather than acknowledge that the regulations we have now are inadequate to stop somebody like this. It is the inadequate rules and regulations we have now that allow for tragedies like this to occur. How can you defend that?

and just which genius in washington do you pin your hope onto for the magic law that would have circumvented this tragedy?? the fact that the article was worded the way it was showed an ulterior motive by its author.

Re: Guns Galore - Your right to bear arms

Good points iceman.  There is no "magic law" that will circumvent all tragedies.  It's a complex area and it takes numerous laws and regulations to reduce the likelihood of incidents like this happening.  However, there are people who believe that their "right to bear arms" means that everyone has the right to own a gun, everyone should own a gun and that there should be ZERO restrictions on who may possess and where they may take their firearms.  Those people would support this nut's right to buy that gun and to bring it to work that fateful day.

Second, the author did word the article and use the chosen terminology to make a point.  Just like many other news stories and TV and radio reports the last couple days.  This guy's background and his ability to buy this type of weapon without anyone blinking an eye is newsworthy and points to the need for tighter laws and regulations.

Re: Guns Galore - Your right to bear arms

I have been in the gun debate for 5 decades and I can assure you the report was carefully worded for maximum effect. Had this guy done any research he would have found the cop killer he so happily bannered was not the general use or intention of the weapon system, and as I wrote the armour piercing rounds are restricted. In light of what I just picked off another site, perhaps the law should be directed at islamics. The base commander at Fort Hood says soldiers who witnessed a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allah Akbar!" before opening fire at the Texas post. Lt. Gen. Robert Cone told NBC's "Today" show on Friday that suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for "God is great!" before the rampage Thursday that also left 30 people wounded. Military officials say they are still piecing together what may have pushed Hasan, an Army psychiatrist trained to help soldiers in distress, to turn on his comrades. But we all know this is the religion of peace!!!

What religion was the psycho who shot up the office building in Orlando the next day?

Msmagoo - don't waste your time debating gun control with these two.  I tried months ago and realized how off the deep end they are.

The next argument they will make with you is that if everyone had a gun this tragedy would never have taken place.  More guns equals less violence in their minds.

That is exactly correct. In the case of the Ft. Hood shootings. This is not a problem of guns or gun control. This is another problem of religion and those that believe everything it teaches. Why is he any different from the crazed religionist that blows up an abortion clinic and kills the doctor saying God told him to do it? It is a problem of religious dogma.

Re: Guns Galore - Your right to bear arms

That is a true statement.  If people were allowed to freely carry, the crazies and criminals would be less inclined to attempt such a thing, and if they did, they would be dead moments after they started shooting.

Crap, why didn't someone on a military base have a gun?  This moron was apparently quite wise by targeting a group of people who were unable to defend themselves.

How many were killed?  How many wounded?

Yeah, guns for everyone.  Yippie, that's the solution.
