Could General Electric (GE) Be On The Track To Recovery?

General Electric (NYSE: GE) closed yesterday at $14.87. So far the stock has hit a 52-week low of $5.73 and 52-week high of $21.04. General Electric stock has been showing support around 14.24 and resistance in the 15.30 range. Technical indicators for the stock are Bearish and S&P gives GE a neutral 3 STAR (out of 5) hold rating. GE appears on the Investors Observer Analysts Favorites list. For a hedged play on this stock, look at a Jun '10 15 covered call (GEW FH) for a net debit in the $13.19 area. That is also the break even stock price for this trade. This covered call has a 232 day duration, provides 11.30% downside protection and a 13.72% assigned return rate for a 21.59% annualized return rate (comparison purposes only). A lower cost hedged play for this stock would use a longer term call option in place of the covered call stock purchase. To use this strategy look at going long the GE Jan '11 10 Call (VGE AB) and selling the Jun '10 15 call (GEW FH) for a $3.82 debit. The trade has a 232 day life and would provide 7.06% downside protection and a 30.89% assigned return rate for a 49.00% annualized return rate (for comparison purposes only). General Electric has a current annual dividend yield of 2.68%

If you ignore the BILLIONS in debt that they owe for crap they did in their GE Financial Dept (much in the way that the banks like GS, C, BAC are ignoring their losses and/or not recognizing it, then yes, GE is on the way to recovery.

heck, if we just ignore unemployment and the consumer slowing (if not stopping) their spending, then the market could just shoot back up to Dow 14000-15000 by spring of 2010, if not earlier.

I hope GE is on the road to recovery.  They used to make really good products.  We need companys that build products that last.  I am tired of buying something ie a stove and having it fall apart before 10 years is up, heck I'm lucky if it lasts 5 years.

It used to be if you bought a stove, it would last a lifetime.  Ha Ha not any more.

I do agree that GE makes pretty good household products.

I still have their alarm clock from back during my college days (some 10+ years ago).
