I just cashed out of AIV last week. I had bought in at $7 and cashed out at $14. But I'm not a millionaire because I don't invest that much money at one time in the stock market. And it took me about six months worth of patience to double my money this year as it was.

I'm not a millionaire because I don't have a huge fund to play with and the market is unpredictable. You may be up a few hundred a day and down a few hundred the next.

    Re: Making money???

So I took all of the money that I had cashed out from AIV last week and I invested it in FUN with a limit order of $7. FUN recently announced that they're cutting their dividend beginning in 2010 to pay down their debt, and all of the income investors are dumping their shares. FUN is trading very close to its 52 week low today at $6.50 with a 200 day moving avg of $10.54 and a high of $15. FUN owns the popular and profitable Cedar Point amusement parks, which had a tough attendance season this year because of the unusual never-ending rain in my area on top of the poor economy. It's another promising short-term capital gains play with the potential for me to double my money again if I'm patient with it.

    Re: Making money???

I believe this question could be placed here:

Now I understand the price of stock relates to the answer, but I'm curious. If someone were wanting to invest to make their future better, what is the LEAST ammount of cash required by a brokerage company to begin?  Could someone start with $25? $50?

    Re: Making money???

How would you invest with $25 $50??

Using a brokerage company you need  $4-$10+ just for commisions.  So I guess you could buy 21 shares of a $1.00 stock, if you could use the $4.00 commision.  Or 1 share of a $21.00 stock.

So really you could buy 1 share of a $1.00 with the $4.00 commison.  Thus, $5.00 is enough?  I think you would wait for a very long time though to make your future better ;0)

    Re: Making money???

By your reply, I note you weren't concerned with the low ammount, so it IS possible?

If I had $50 to (waste) in an effort to better things, it would be no problem to take hold of just 1-3 or even 10 shares plus commision? I would not feel right if a broker would be laughing at someone with a mere pittance of stock.
