Who y'all think was snubbed of All-Star Honor (besides Dye)?  Which player and/or team has underachieved?  Overachieved?  Any trade before the deadline thoughts? 

Every year, there's always someone who's snubbed of being an All-Star. And, unless you're a Red Sox or Yankees players, chances are you will be voted out in favor of those players.

Look at my Dodgers - we have the best record in baseball, yet, we have no starters in the All-Star game.

Can't please everyone.

The best revenge is for Dye and the White Sox to win the World Series.

 

 Yea I know what you mean completely.  I think Andre Ethier rly deserves it, and personally Pedroia is not putting up numbers any where near Ian Kinsler.  I hate the guy; he's scrappy and nothing else. Kinsler is the real deal.  Also, Baltimore's Brian Roberts isputting up similar, if not better, numbers than Dustin.  Yet, Brob is not an All-Star AT ALL.

So, even if a team (Royals, Pirates) is 20 games under .500 in the 1st half, someone from their team will get to go to the All-Star team.

Doesn't really make sense.

But then again, I suppose it's for the fans to see at least one player from each team represented.

I have to disagree with ya on tht one.  There are some great players on bad teams.  Take Royals Grienke for example.  He's on pace to win the Cy Young.  Without tht system, those players like last yr's McLouth would never get the chance to show the audience their talents due to the market/team they play for. 

Adam Lind from the Jays didn't make it and he's having a great year.  There are just too many outfielders to choose from.

As for the trade deadline, it looks like Halladay will be going somewhere.

I agree with you johnnygrits.  Halladay will be traded to a contender as the Jays will go nowhere this year.  Time to rebuild and I say trade Vernon Wells and Alex Rios as they have not done anything this year to help the Jays.  Sign those big contracts and then collect your money for doing nothing.

 Being a Dodgers and Angels fan, I would love to see either team get Halladay.

If I am the Angels, I'd be more than happy to give up Brandon Wood, Howie Kendrick, and Chone Figgins, along with a few others, but no pitchers.

If I am the Dodgers, I'd give up Russell Martin, and a few others, including one of the youngsters, like Etheir or Loney. But, I'd keep Kemp

If Dodgers could get better pitching, they're going to World Series; if not, the Giants will. Lincecum, Cain, Randy Johnson -- that's a killer line-up and will win a 5- or 7-game series over the Dodgers.

 As for the Angels, our starters are just a mess, and you can't win by outscoring the other team. Just ask the Yankees or Rangers the last few years

You gotta be crazy to be willing to give up Ethier and Martin for a 32 year old pitcher.  I can give up Loney, no problem. 

If he goes to the NL, I hope he stays out West. My Braves will be nowhere in the conversation so I would rather him not go to a team in the East. Mets signed Pedro so I don't think they are looking at Halladay either. I hope Philly doesn't get him, that will really hurt our chances at running them down.

Actually the Phillies signed Pedro.  He'll be good as long as his arm holds up.  He'll throw a couple of good games, but he'll end up being just average in the second half.  His velocity may be in the 90s in simulation games, but let's see what happens when he pitches to Pujols or Ryan Howard.

 Stan - I agree with you in that assessment.

Phillies took a $1M gamble on him ($1.5M if he meets incentives), and quite frankly, it's not too bad of a game.

if he does well, they'll have a better shot to head to the World Series 

if he does poorly, it's $1M lost.

I had hoped the Dodgers/Angels would take a gamble on Pedro, but he asked for too much money.

Sorry stan, I was thinking Phils and typed Mets. With the Phils so far in front of my Braves, I hated them signing him. I agree, this is win/win for Philly.

No worries Johnnygrits.  Let's all see how Pedro does in his first start.  It's definitely a good move to take a chance on a former All-Star.   Now just waiting to see where Halladay goes.

Pedro was a good signing, like veryone else said.  The problem is, he showed the world tht he is not a major league pitcher, with an ERA well over 5.
