    Red light Cameras

Has anybody gotten notices in the mail about these and has anyone gotten out of the fine by going to court?  What is everyones opinion on the validity of these cameras.

    Re: Red light Cameras

I got nailed with one of these things in January in downtown Tempe.  They didn't get me for running a red light, but for speeding.  I was going 46 in a 35.  I don't drive there very often, and it was at night, so I wasn't paying attention.  I went to the driving school for a day instead of paying the fine.

I guess I don't really have a problem with it.  If you're speeding, you're speeding.  But they are using them as a money maker, not for safety purposes.  They are going up everywhere.  Now they are going to have them on the highways throughout Arizona (not just on the 101 through Scottsdale).

To me, the highways can suppost much higher speeds than 55-65 miles per hour.  The speed limits should be more like 75-85.

I didn't get busted by a red light camera, I did take the wrong lane on the Golden Gate Bridge. Received a picture of my license plate in the mail a couple weeks later. The letter spelled out the valid reasons for apeal, I didn't qualify.

As for the validity of these cameras - You broke the law and got caught, it doesn't matter if a cop saw you or not, you did it.

I do believe these cameras will improve safety. If you believe you are going to be fined for running a red light you probably won't do it.

    Re: Red light Cameras

I don't have a problem with the red light cameras.  Red light running is a huge problem here in AZ.  I think we're about the worst in the nation.  So that gets people to think twice about doing it.  But what the government is doing with the speeding here is a little overboard.  The state is going to set up 300 speed cameras on the freeways.  When you get caught, you don't get points on your license, and it doesn't get reported to your insurance.  Just send in your check.  It's not about safety.  It's purely about money.

If you contest it, let us know how it goes! My suspicion is that you're busted, case closed.

i am all for them. running red lights is very dangerous. people who run red lights are also the same people that speed as well as changes lanes every 10 seconds. i have been driving for almost 30 years have have never even received so much as a parking ticket.
