    BATTERY POWER

Senator John McCain has announced that he proposes a $300 million reward to whom ever can develop a new battery sufficient to power an automobile, as part of his new energy plan.

Which of todays company's are capable of that challenge?   ENER, HEV,several of the auto manufactures have interests in companies with electric batteries in R&D.

    Any other ideas out there?

not a bad tradeoff  for right stock that is,but there are several, and I used to own one in real life with a broker and i see today it is almost flat from where I owned it,whew, but really there has got to be a better system than what we got now,for long distances and such without refueling or in this case,,,juicing up !

Good pick, How comfortable are you with their accounting disclosures? I see they are partnered with ENS, which I have followed for several months. Most of their products are for industrial applications, do you auto applications in their R&D ?

I don't like batteries, I think they're a landfill nightmare along with mercury flourescent bulbs. There needs to be more innovative solutions.

That's a good point I didn't think of.  It would be a landfill nightmare.  Who knows what we should do.

    Re: BATTERY POWER

Advanced Battery Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABAT), founded in September 2002, develops, manufactures and distributes rechargeable Polymer Lithium-Ion (PLI) batteries. The Company's products include rechargeable PLI batteries for electric automobiles, motorcycles, mine-use lamps, notebook computers, walkie-talkies and other electronic devices.

I like the fact that they produce batteries for electric cars, and that their quarterly revenue and gross profit are up, and still have a healthy cash flow. I think the batteries would not be a landfill issue if they could be recycled, but that may be a big if.

Every vehicle in the world has a battery now.

When have you last seen one in a landfill?

WHERE DO THE BATTERIES GO?  I REALLY DON'T KNOW.

    Re: BATTERY POWER

Fortunately there are materials inside that retain enough value to be re-cycled. Even though the batteries don't function the metals inside are reusable.

    n't Re: BATTERY POWER

Car batteries should be turned in to a place that recycles them.  The car batteries we use now are rechargeable ... eventually, they lose the capacity to recharge.  When you buy a new one, most places keep the old one, or charge a fee if you don't turn it in.  Somehow there are a couple of batteries hanging out here.  As soon as I have a car of my own, I'm going to see if I can take them to Sears or Wal-Mart to turn in.  I hate seeing them sitting around here.

As for the new batteries to run a whole car ... when they become practical, it will be great!  But they will quit working ... some cars will be in accidents, and the batteries will need to be recycled.  Why do people think that just because they are rechargeable that they will last forever?

I like that car that runs on air... maybe it will be more eco friendly when it dies.  <G>
