    Trading "short"

Still new at this but I understand the basic concept behind it I think.  I 'short' 100 shares of XYZ hoping that it will drop, then an hour later XYZ shares are $1 lower and I 'cover' 100 shares making $80 (subtracting fees). Correct?

However, is it really possible to day trade short with any reliability?  I attempted my first short today, I didn't shoot to make any real money, just wanted to see how it worked. I shorted some shares, watched it until it dropped about 30 cents then covered it. There's where I found the problem; with the 20 min delay on the somewhat volatile trading, the stock was actually only 9 cents down when the transaction completed.

The delay has always been a problem.  But I think you will find that when you hold the stock a little longer and as long as it keeps falling you will do better.

Hello,  you can do quite well at shorting if you learn how to read charts which really isnt that difficult. What you r looking for in a short is a company that has been downgraded like the banks, homebuilders, etc. and input indicators into stock charts. go to bigcharts.com for good charts. You want to hold shorts for a atleast a few days to weeeks . Any questions let me know  good luck

When you short set a limit, don't sell at market or you'll not know what you'll be selling at.

Shorting Bluechip stocks when they're  at there high in a 3 day span is a cool way to make a good buck like on AAPL
