    I used to think that.

In my second contest I thought I would take some big risks and found out it wasn't always better, I ended up losing A LOT of money!  I am playing it much safer now and making money instead of losing money!  Not saying all risk is bad, just do your research and know what you are getting into.

I have found the same thing.  It doesn't help to have a portfolio of only "safe" stocks, but you have to be careful of the stocks that are in the portfolio.  I used the "mutual fund" technique that WSS offered at the start of this game, and it has worked the best out of the 3 games for me.

I used the pre-selected "risky" portfolio.  I have now gotten rid of about half the stocks in that portfolio and added my own, but some of the stocks in that portfolio were pretty good.  But I think I balanced out my portfolio with some riskier holdings and some pretty conservative holdings.  I think you need different levels of risks with your stock holdings.

I used the same options and it helped me also.  Better than the last 2 games I played.

If you want to win, of course you have to take risks. There's no way I would play any of my portfolios in real life! I try to play 8 stocks, or however many it takes to use up all the money. If you are diversified, it'll be really tough to win.

I'm just starting out, but I agree in some point, you have to go for the stocks that are "moving". Those that are active and look promising. Sometimes it takes more risk, but I find the charts to be extremely helpful to help me decide whether the company has some stability to it.
