I have a question about the war in Iraq ?

Hopefully noone will bash me for being so uninformed, but I can't help but wonder why if we are needed and wanted in Iraq, and it is no longer forced occupancy like some of the media are reporting, why do we still need to foot the whole bill for it. It is costing us millions a day in tax money, and we are so far in debt, and it is my understanding that Iraq is not a poor country, due to all the oil they have, so if they want us there, why can't they cover some of the expenses. I understand we are even paying for reconstruction and improvements in areas devastated by the bombing, etc.

I don't want to upset anyone with the question, the only knowledge I have regarding the war is what I hear on the news, so I don't know all the politics of it, or what is true and what isn't. But it just seemed reasonable to me that if what I understand is correct then we should not have to pay for everything.

If I am way off base here maybe someone who is more knowledgeable than I can help me understand more about it.

    Barbara Jones:

Hopefully noone will bash me for being so uninformed, but I can't help but wonder why if we are needed (a King George I & II lie from the beginning) and wanted (that is government/mainstream media propaganda) in Iraq, and it is no longer forced occupancy like some of the media are reporting (that is again government/mainstream media propaganda), why do we still need to foot the whole bill for it.  Well, if it is all a lie from beginning to end, then obviously we must foot the bill because the USA are the culprits in destroying this nation.  It is costing us millions a day in tax money, and we are so far in debt, and it is my understanding that Iraq is not a poor country, due to all the oil they have, so if they want us there (again, they do not), why can't they cover some of the expenses.  Mainly, because the government contractors cannot get anything to work.  They can’t get the oil pumped, and what is pumped gets blown up along the way.  They can’t get the buildings, roads, bridges, and every other infrastructure built because the people don’t want us there.  I understand we are even paying for reconstruction and improvements in areas devastated by the bombing, etc.  For the record, almost every area of Iraq is devastated, and what little the USA has “fixed” is sabotaged or unsustainable.

I don't want to upset anyone with the question, the only knowledge I have regarding the war is what I hear on the news, so I don't know all the politics of it, or what is true and what isn't.   Just about anything you hear in the mainstream media is biased, and so if things have improved, the USA has accomplished miraculous feats, and what hasn’t been improved is ignored.  But it just seemed reasonable to me that if what I understand is correct then we should not have to pay for everything.  How dare you expect the government to be reasonable … sorry … just a tincy-wincy bash, but really this fiasco will continue to cost us billions for the next, if McInsain, gets his way, 100 years.

If I am way off base here maybe someone who is more knowledgeable than I can help me understand more about it.

Barbara, you are NOT off base.  Your questions are very good questions … the problem is that we no longer have an investigative news media … the government only tells them what they want you to hear, and the media only tells you what the government wants you to hear.  On top of that, we have a government run school system that pumps out (if they survive … Detroit … 25% graduation rate) ignorant fools that are programmed to believe whatever the government or media tells them are the truth.

Thank you Magoo, you make a good point about why we are footing the bill.

A well stated reply,  I share the same views, and will be writing in Ron Paul for President. We need to bring our troops home, stop spending foolishly, making money out of thin air, and start to focus more on bringing our country back to our founding Constitution and gold standard.

I Agree, and to add insult to injury, just a few days ago it was announced that Iraq has derived 70 billion with a B dollars from their oil production. Where is that money going??

And yes the pipeline has been a constant target, not only from the Looney fundamentilists but also from the local pilfiring of this resource to then be sold on the black market. However 70 billion dollars, which so far as I understand is just sitting in Iraq's bank account. They must be pumping out some of it into the market.

We're being dumb. Is there much more to it? This country is going down. I'm really wondering how much more debt this country can take before we realize we've taken on too much.

I saw Gen. Patraias (sp?) say that Iraq is footing more and more of the cost as their oil profits rise. However, I could not find numbers on the internet.

    Thanks for voting................

Amen, you are so right this country is going down. Our own president states we are just in slow times when we all know that we are in a recession. It is pretty sad when China has to loan us the money for the stimulus package, pretty scary, huh.

This is a  good addition to this post. I totally agree that despite what the government or media say or do we should always support our troops.
