    Re: WINDOWS XP

For once I agree with surveybob. I myself upgraded to WindowsVista about eight months ago. And once I got through with famalierizing myself with the new features and such. I found that Vista is definitely an improvement over XP especially in the self-maintanence departmeent as well as more user friendly features, that is "friendly", once you accustom yourself to Vista.

Unlike cars where no matter what year or model it is, the brakes and wheels are always in the same place and the rules of the road don't change, (much).  Computers, you have to keep going through this learning process every few years. It happens everytime a new operating system comes to market. At first they boo-hoo the new system, like they did when they first moved to XP.

Its not so much that people hate learning something new. Its more like, we hate re-learning something new.

Don't you have to learn something before you can relearn it?  :-)

Like cars, you used to be able to work on computers yourself ... adding RAM, bigger HDs, new programs ... and none of it difficult.  Now, it isn't as easy as it used to be.  But, unlike cars, still doable for the determined.  <BG>

I like XP.  I have used Vista.  It does take some figuring out, but I think most people think that it's going to be easy.

If you want a computer that is really easy to use, get a Mac.  LOL!

But I love my PCs ...

Had XP Home Ed. Tried Vista. Went to XP Pro Ed. Learned about Linux Mandrake, tried it and stuck with it. Although, I have a few computers with different platforms loaded on each. Red Hat is good, but I like the feel of Mandrake for home computers. So, the two computers that get used most often around my place are platformed with XP Pro and Mandrake. And the best part about Linux is that it is open source and can still be downloaded and installed for FREE! Yeah, I like free!!!!!!!

my daughters boyfriend swears by his mac...all of us have xp's, so that's interesting melany that you are also as happy as he is with his mac...the motherboard on my laptop recently went so i need a new laptop and i have been torn between which type to get...his adoration for mac has really made me think twice....but since we have all the programs for xp's i would have to repurchase everything new again...hmmm....its a conundrum...

Karand, I find that which OS you want depends on what kind of person you are and what you want to do with your computer. PC's work great for most of the population. However, if you're an artsy person and have time and money, Macs are better. You can edit pictures and video to come out with better products. You'll need to drop some money on software though.

I just heard they have a new operating system planned for 2009. (Probably means 2010-11)

i agree.  from what i have seen vista is horrible.  and yet although msft hasn't perfected that software, they are already at work on the next version, which surely will be just as horrible if not worse.

I'm not really a windows fan. I rather use a linux software, but if had I choose XP or Vista - it would have to XP.  Vista to me take to much memory

I have no problem using both of them.  One at office and other at home. Perhaps you can give it some more time. ?
