I SURE HOPE WE ARE NOT ALL OUT OF HERE IN 2012.  MY LITTLE ONES HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO TILL THEY ARE GROWN AND I WANT THEM TO HAVE A WONDERFUL CHILDHOOD.  I ALSO AM NOT READY TO LEAVE HERE YET.  I HAVE LOTS OF FUN THINGS TO DO AND BESIDES ALL THE GOOD PEOPLE IN THE WORLD NEED  A CHANCE TO DISCOVER WHATEVER THEY WANT TOO AND I DON'T THINK WE CAN DO IT ALL BY 2012.  HAVE A GOOD DAY.

Re: Why worry about global warming when we won't be here in 5 years

There are societies where 13 year old girls can marry 50 year old men, that is pedophilia in our society, but it is not a violent crime as you say. Yes rape is, so maybe using that comparison was wrong, but homosexuality is no different than pedophilia, or bestiality, all it has to do with is what a society comes to find the norm. One day people who like to have sex with animals are going to want society to find their preferrences the norm. They'll want them legalized. Should society not have a say in matters such as this? Or are all those who disagree with such sexual deviancy to be classified as bigots, homophobes, bestialphobes, etc.

As for MENSA it depends on the test you take, you've got to score in the top 2%, one test may be 132 and another 140. When I took the test in Pittsburgh PA, I took two tests that MENSA offered. You only have to score in the top 2% on one test to get in. They won't tell you how you did though, just whether you scored high enough or not.

I like to tell everyone that they were desperate for members so they flipped the scores upside down and that is how I got in. LOL

The only reason that I took the test was because I never went to college, though now I wish I had, but I wanted to prove to myself that I could have if I had wanted to. I hated school so I just followed along in the family trade of bricklaying. My grandfather, father and uncle were all bricklayers. Now that I'm getting older I no longer want the physical labor, it is very hard work. This is why I'm getting more into day trading. I know I can make a good living from it, I just have to convince my wife. ;-)

    Seti03:

Don't know how I missed this one. Are you my friend trying to equate horrendous crimes. with what two consenting people do in privacy.

And I am not a MENSA grad. took the examine back somewhere in the early eighties only scored a 129. I believe you needed at least a 140 or 145 to pass at the time.

    kljcmc:

Seti3, you said "you see there.... gulp...... we're doomed" in regards to ssskrzypek's post. That my friend is mockery whether you admit it my friend or not.

As for intolerance, please tell me how you think conservatives are intolerant. I could post several ways that the so called "enlightened" "progressive" "liberal" movement think they are so tolerant, yet liberals are tolerant of only the minority or the views that go against traditional societal ways. Why? Because they want to do anything that is contrary to the majority. When the majority make known their viewpoints, the liberals are intolerant of such views, claiming the majority are intolerant. This slowly works at the majority viewpoint until the weak minded no longer are able to think for themselves.

If I disagree with homosexuality, I am not intolerant as you'd like people to believe. Are you tolerant of pedophiles? Should society be tolerant of pedophiles? How about rapists? Are you tolerant of them? You and others claim that homosexuals hurt no one, I say you are wrong, homosexuals hurt society, hurt our children. I my friend have no desire for adulterers, pedophiles, rapists, those who practice beastiality or homosexuals to influence my kids. These are all sexual lusts my friend, whether you like it or not.

You have shown that you refuse to tolerate those who profess belief in an "old ancient book" or in a belief in a God. Do you my friend think you are so educated, so enlightened, so progressive that you are so much smarter than the majority of the world?

In your own mind you may feel more intelligent than a Christian, but as I've stated before there are many intelligent Christians out there. Many Doctors who are Christian. Many Scientists who are Christian. Just because you have no faith or only believe in what you see, that is not our problem. As I said before, many people 500 years ago thought they were wise too and I'm sure they would deny some of the things we know to be true today. So a persons personal concept of how intelligent they think they are means nothing.

I my friend am a Christian, I know I'm not the smartest person in the world and that I don't know it all, but you see Seti3, though I have a membership in MENSA, I'm not so arrogant as to mock and belittle and ridicule those whom I disagree with.

Your comment to ssskrzypek was mockery, just as your joking about people who believe in an "ancient book" was mockery, and such mockery my friend only shows your insecurity. IMO

    Seti03:

kljcmc says....Perhaps what is dooming us is your mockery and intolerance of others beliefs. Oh the enlightened liberals love free speach, except when that speach is religious or biblical.

I mock no one sir. You've mistaken my sense of humor. And "intolerance"...such a strange word (coming from a Conservative.)

Recent info update on global warming......

    July 1, 2008; Page A15

Last week marked the 20th anniversary of the mass hysteria phenomenon known as global warming. Much of the science has since been discredited. Now it's time for political scientists, theologians and psychiatrists to weigh in.

What, discredited? Thousands of scientists insist otherwise, none more noisily than NASA's Jim Hansen, who first banged the gong with his June 23, 1988, congressional testimony (delivered with all the modesty of "99% confidence").

But mother nature has opinions of her own. NASA now begrudgingly confirms that the hottest year on record in the continental 48 was not 1998, as previously believed, but 1934, and that six of the 10 hottest years since 1880 antedate 1954. Data from 3,000 scientific robots in the world's oceans show there has been slight cooling in the past five years, never mind that "80% to 90% of global warming involves heating up ocean waters," according to a report by NPR's Richard Harris.

meh, i'm the type of person that don't want to see the world end...but at the same time would be happy at the slap of reality some people might get from their cozy little world and start thinking outside of their little social box, and look at the world with open eyes and for once do something about it.

Hmmmm..........just read the complete article. I learn something new everyday on this Forum.  For instance today, after reading Bret Stephens article, presented here by my friend Surveybob. I now know that Global warming is nothing more than a world wide conspiricy to topple Capitalism and yes, Religion. Nothing more than a Commy Hoax. Of course! How could I have been so deceived?

Hmmm...... isnt's this the same Bret Stephens that also writes for the "Commentary Magazine" A big time neoconservative Mag.

Hmmmm.....wasn't it about a year ago that Rupert Murdock bought the WSJ. And, allegedly agreed not to turn it into another FOX News rag.

    murdoch WSJ The Business Online:

Rupert Murdoch has succeeded with his $5 billion bid for Dow Jones. Negotiations are now complete and a formal announcement is expected next week.

Rupert Murdoch has succeeded with his $5 billion bid for Dow Jones, owners of the Wall Street Journal, according to sources acting for the Dow Jones board. Negotiations have been completed and the board is confident the terms of the deal will be accepted by the Bancroft family, which controls a majority of voting shares in Dow Jones, over the next few days. A formal announcement is expected next week.

Murdoch’s News Corporation will take over America’s most prestigious financial publisher at the price he originally offered on April 17, when he proposed $60 a share when the stock was trading at $36, a 67% premium.

After lengthy talks involving many lawyers, the deal includes a legally-enforceable agreement with Murdoch which will supposedly guarantee the integrity and independence of the Wall Street Journal’s journalism. Read more…

Yes, and he promised. Oh well....?

    Carpe Diem.!!

    kljcmc:

    Found this in Wikipedia:

Mr. Klaus is president of the Czech Republic.  His critics point out that during his premiership he had neglected the importance of law (in particular battling corruption), largely ignored the enforcement of property rights on the stock market, and that his pet project, the voucher privatization, was poorly executed and didn't bring the economy responsible owners it needed. They claim that his record in government does not justify the picture of Klaus as a major free-market figure. His avowed aim of creating a nation which participated in the capitalist system as shareholders signally failed, with most of the privatisations of his tenure ending up in relatively few, and often opaque, hands.[citation needed]

Just didn't want you to think, Kljcmc That you were being ignored.

    Carpe Diem.!!

Seti, I guess you are trying to be funny. Because if you read the article including this paragraph ............"This last item is, of course, a forecast, not an empirical observation. But it raises a useful question: If even slight global cooling remains evidence of global warming, what isn't evidence of global warming? What we have here is a nonfalsifiable hypothesis, logically indistinguishable from claims for the existence of God. This doesn't mean God doesn't exist, or that global warming isn't happening. It does mean it isn't science."

....and derived from the article your response above, all I can say is that is funny.

And label Mr. Stevens anything you want, his article referring to NASA numbers, amongst others, not his own.
