I don't work in an office, but i used to work in a shop repairing electronic equipment.  One day I was talking on the phone to somebody, and as I talked, my hands did their thing with helping me describe what I was talking about.  After I hung up, one of my coworkers asked me if the person on the other end understood all the hand motions.  "Of course," I answered.

Funny, Melany - I don't even know what you look like, but somehow I can envision you doing that.  I do it too.  I used to have long fake fingernails, years ago, and at the Meet The Parents Night, I was giving my speech about the curriculum, when I noticed a father staring at my hands.  I didn't know what to do - stop talking, or put my hands behind my back.  Anyway, I got rid of those things a long time ago, and good riddance!!

I know people make  fun of it, but somehow it seems to me it's like drawing pictures in the air, or conducting music, or waving at angels. Just tell your husband to keep at arm's distance : )

Most of the time hand gestures don't help anything, but my wife has really built up her arms!!!

That is true enough, we don't all smile and laugh at the same time, but hey, we can all do it and sometimes one job is worse than another.

Wisdom.....the grass is not always greener on the other-side.

Who would have thought that cleaning up vomit and changing a baby's nappy/diaper was a bad job.....believe me that when they're your own children it's not. (lol)

that's so true blackfeather~before i had children i was a career women and when my family found out i was having a baby they laughed because they coulded imagined me changing a diaper...i was insulted....then in the hospital the night before we brought my daugther home my husband and i were changer her diaper for the first time and i stood there and cried because here we were two adults about to take this helpless infant home with us who would depend on us for everything ....and between the two of us we couldn't even do a simple thing like change a diaper.....it seems funny how fast you become a pro at that, right.??

sometimes i like to make it look like my hand is talking and not me - takes away some of the blame when it says something stupid

I'm sorry, but for me, yes, it was a bad job ... with all three of them.  I puked my way through all the dirty diapers, and I'm glad that I used disposible, because cloth diapers would have been impossible!

Gee I thought is was just because we are Italian lol  Really, most expressive people do talk w/ their hands to emphasize a point.

Good presenters use hand gestures for emphasis.
