I think Ebay will be your best buy on used lap tops.

THANKS I WAS THINKING OF THAT , BUT I DON'T KNOW ANY THING ABOUT THEM . LIKE DO YOU NEED TO BUY OTHER THINGS TO GET THEM TO WWORK , AND IF YOU ALREADY HAVE HIGH SPEED , DO YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER FEE. ITS HARD FOR ME TO GET ON THE COMPUTER SOMETIMES WHEN THE KIDS ARE HOME , WE ARE NOT GOOD AT TAKING TURNS . SO IF I GET A LAP TOP , I WILL HAVE ALL THE TIME I WANT . I HAVE BEEN WORKING OVER TIME AND SAVING TO GET ONE .

Corky, Try Tigerdirect.com.  They have some pretty good prices and they run daily specials.

I don't know about e-bay. My husband has ordered 6 audio receivers through e-bay, different sellers, and every single one has something wrong with it that was not disclosed on the seller's page. We are in dispute with 3 of them.

How cheap are you trying to go? Is it absolutely necessary to have a laptop? You could always try Craigslist if you want to see the item in person... You won't get Ebay's warranty (obviously), but at least you could see it turn on, review the specs, and try it out.

Most computer companies have refurbished computers, many of them will say out of box, so you know they haven't been used. or google used / out of box laptops, it'll bring up a bunch of sites.  Also, there is TigerDirect.  It's good and reliable.  I bought my 1T external hard drive by searching that way.  It was a floor sample that was never used at half the cost.

    Several places come to mind.

    http://www.laptopcloseout.com/usa/store.html

    http://www.usedlaptops.com/

    http://www.newegg.com/

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/

    http://www.compuoutlet.com/

Or You may just try a search for refurbished laptops or remanufactured laptops. Good Luck!!!

Tigerdirect is a great place to start and you can go to the apple webpage and see if they sell refurbished computers.  I know dell does this and they come with a warranty and everything so it's like getting a new computer at a lower cost.

Also, what you might need to go with the laptop depends on the unit you will purchase and the type of Internet connection you have at home. Example, if you have dial-up where only one person can get online at a time, the laptop won't do you any good. Make sure what type of modem, or card, is installed on the unit!!

Corky I want to make sure you know Apple has it's own operating system (OS) which is difference than Windows. (some of the new Apples run both OS's). It might take time to learn the new OS on Apple . The only reason to own an Apple is if you are doing intensive graphic work

I would get a Dell Or HP Laptop probably at a better price. Hook up a wireless router to your modem you can run both computers (or more than 2 cpu) on the net at the same time Check with your net provider on what router to use. ( This is just my own opinion )

I wouldn't say that is the ONLY reason.

I've never bought an entire computer at Newegg, but alot of times they have great deals on ram and hds, etc. Apple sells refurbs on their website, but you'll probably find the best deals on ebay, especially if you're patient.
