    scam?

I received this email this morning I think its a scam.  Has anyone ever got a an email like this before?

    Sir,

I got your contact during my private search for a reliable, trust worthy and honest person to introduce this transfer project.

Am Mr. ALEX KOFFI, the regional Auditor General of International Commercial Bank of Ghana, First Light Branch. I am a Ghanaian married with two kids. I'm residing at plot 1740 Tema community in the out sketch of Accra, our country's capital city. I am writing to solicit for your assistance in this noble transfer of US$18,750,000 United States Dollars. This fund is the excess of what my branch in which I'm the regional Auditor General made as profit last year. I have already submitted an approved end of the last Year's report to my Head Office here in Accra and they will never know of this Excess.

I have since placed this amount on a SUSPENSE ACCOUNT without a beneficiary. As an officer of the bank, I cannot directly be connected to this money, that is why I was compelled to request for your assistance for you to receive this money into your bank account.

It is going to be a bank-to-bank transfer to your nominated bank account anywhere you feel safer. All I need from you is to stand as the original depositor of this fund. If you accept this offer, I will appreciate your timely response with your full contact details, your ID (International passport), direct telephone and fax numbers.

    With regards,
    ALEX KOFFI

Take money from someone I don't know? Never! I won't even allow a stranger buy me a cup of coffee or pay for my dinner when I'm eating in a restaurant. Unless, of course, it's the captain of the cruise ship.

Replying to the E-mail might get you even more spam. I'd just delete it and block the sender through your internet service provider (ISP).

But, of course, you're just joking. :-)

This very scam was broken down on one of the 60 Minutes type shows about a year ago. Your next step would be to fly where he is to collect after you send him around $2500. When you get there he meets with you and shows you a buncha fake credentials at which point he needs another 2500 to get the money. Then you never see him again. There are a lot of guys from where he is that do this and have made millions.

    Re: scam?

dean, this is a scam and it's very dangerous, as another person here said they want your bank info, or they want as much info about you so they can steal your idenity.

Some of these are also ways to get into your computer and hijack your personal info, as soon as you see 1 delete it.

There's a few different variations of this scam mostly from either hong kong, china, africa and the UK.

Another scam is that Microsoft is giving away money for your participation, this also is a scam.

Another one is that you hit some sort of lottery, again this is another scam to get your private info.

Another scam that's going around is from an official looking entity like Paypal, Wells Fargo bank and others, these are dangerous because if you open the attachment it'll put a trojan on your computer and attempt to steal your info, like credit card numbers and so forth.

JUST DELETE ANY OF THESE AT ONCE, FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION.

Rule of thumb to live by, BELIEVE HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE AND NONE OF WHAT YOU HEAR.

I HATE THIEVES AND SCAM ARTIST AND I LOOK FOR THEM AND REPORT THEM TO THE ISP's AS SOON AS I RECEIVE ONE.
