    Ban Overturned

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and members of his staff react to the news that
the California Supreme Court has overturned a ban on gay marriages, in his office
in San Francisco, Thursday, May 15, 2008.

SAN FRANCISCO (Associated Press) --  In a monumental victory for the gay rights
movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage
Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest
    state to tie the knot.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices
ruled 4-3 in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.

Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as news spread
    of the decision.

"Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a
loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly
to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual
    orientation," the court wrote.

The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and *** couples and gay rights groups
sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco's monthlong same-sex
    wedding march.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody
_ not just in the state of California, but throughout the country _ will have equal
treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the
    case for San Francisco.

I have mixed feelings on it. One thing I don't like is the court system overruling a decision by the voters of that area. I would feel the same way if the roles were reversed. I've gotten to the point where I hate judges making social policy.

This I will make a statement on...I SOOOOOOOOO  agree I am so sick of judges over turning a voter made law and just spit in our faces and say we dont mean ****

What makes me real mad is they can over turn a law like this but in washington state we tried to get them to over turn the no smoking in bars law and they wouldnt do it.

Stupid ass judges really got their priorities in line!

Judges are not supposed to legislate.  I don't care if gays want to get married, however, I don't think the government should force employers to extend benefits to these spouses.

    Re: Ban Overturned

    Okay..heres my take

Generally people who oppose Gays and Gay marriage...do so on theological grounds...

If we are to accept the validity of this argument...and we accept the validity of theology or at least the theology present in the bible...we must also demand..

That if a child talks back to a parent....they parent has every right to stone the child to death

If someone works on Saturday...they too can be put to death..

Women would not be allowed in the presence of men during menstration

Along with literally hundreds of other rediculous things....

But regardless of that....if we accept the bible and theology at face values...jesus teaches us that we should turn the other cheek and let god be the judge...

you dont have to agree with or support gays and their union....but if you are right....and god damns all gays....well then...let god handle it....you just live your life as best as you can...focus on being the best person you can be....

now that is if we accept that the bible and theology in general is valid and true....

but unfortunately there is zero tangible evidence to support the existence of the god of the bible....or any organized religion for that matter.....there just isnt any evidence....

i personally believe that there very well could be some...supreme factor out there...at least as it applies to the earth and its inhabitants...by virtue of the existence of matter...ie..rocks...water..people...sticks...atoms...and so forth...we can not yet explain spontaneous existence....it just doesnt occur in our experience..there is always a cause...and present matter....

so whatever made....matter....be it an intelligence...or a natural process...like an acorn becoming a tree...that in my opinion is "God" but....there is no evidence for organized religions version of god....that god is all to human...with traits like anger...jealousy...he wants us to give tithe to church.....that all smacks to me of human motivation and manipulation....we see the same thing in our politics today....the bible..i believe was concieved and written by man...in an honest attempt to explain what we at that time couldnt comprehend....with a fair dose of human agenda thrown in for good measure...

But...it is a provable tangible FACT that there are people out there...who do care for...and love one another....but they happen to be of the same sex....but they DO exist

why do we give more weight to somthing with no tangible evidence? We make decisions based upon baseless assumptions...and deny factual real people..provable people their right to make a life commitment though marriage.....

    doesnt make sense to me....

the fact is..that about a week and a half ago..BEFORE the ban was overturned.....we all went to work....paid rediculous prices for gas.....some of us were taxed unfairly....we had to deal with crime....we loved those we loved....we lived out lives as we wanted to the best of our ability.....

and now...AFTER the ban overturn....we still have to go to work....pay for gas...pay taxes....deal with crime....and we still love those we love....and we will continue to live our lives to the best of out ability...

our lives...havent changed...its all the same....the only difference is those that were formerly denied a human basic right....now have it....and i think that is wonderful....

we dont have to agree with it...or disagree....either way...our lives are still ours....and nothing has changed...

it doesnt make sense to get worked up about somthing that doesnt affect you...odds are if you are opposed to gay marriage...you dont frequently associate with or probably even see gay people...just other heterosexual people....its not even a part of your daily life.....so...just let it be...

if god doesnt like it....then he'll deal with it.....but if he doesnt exist in the way in which many of us believe..

than we are senslessly denying other human beings the ability to live THEIR lives as they will....and that my friends just isnt right

while the depth of you ignorance and hatred is astounding...you do bring up a good point...

homosexuals....wont reproduce....given the fact that our planet is becoming overpopulated i think that is a great thing! They do a wonderful community service that we heteros dont. And sometimes they even pick up our slack by adopting the children we pesky heteros wont accept responsibilty for.....

unfortunately though their inability to reproduce wont stop homosexuals from being born...because...almost every gay person was concieved of a heterosexual couple...

heck...if you are straight....you too may one day be the proud parent of a wonderful homosexual little boy or girl....!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

     go read a book

    take care.....

Judges are appointed by public officials to do interpret the laws in the best interest of the public.

In this case its a deciscion(sic) I can live with.

HA!!! Man you are just too much....

So we've established that I'm Dark...and I suck...and that I'm defending the basic rights of human beings...

    BUT...

So far you've done nothing to prove your case....so whenever you get around to saying anything objective that has at least a tenuous connecition to reality and fact...im happy to listen

    have a good one

You know if your question was posed for a constructive reason I would have no problem giving you that answer. But since it is obviously an intellectually bankrupt attack the likes of which your average 3rd grader could out-do i think ill let you just wonder.

Thats one of the benefits of intelligence and security in you masculinity...you dont have to worry about the dim perceptions of others...
